Description
Son Venin Posthume Eau de Parfum is the winner in the independent category of The Art and Olfaction Awards 2020. Posthume is a warm spicy and leather fragrance inspired by the cold and raw climate and heritage of Scandinavia. Son Venin describes Posthume as a sensory reenactment of the tar buildings and extreme nature of Norway, which they call their ‘inherent creature’. Posthume certainly is the scent of an enduring species. For us it’s the animalic, cumin-spiced, body-heat, sweet-sweat smell of fern. An enthralling display of raw nature taken to molecular level that truly deserves its 2020 Art & Olfaction Award.
A testament to hardiness in trying times, the ancient fern is a native to northern european forests with a characteristic leathery, tobacco-y smell. The epitome of wilderness, the fern refuses to be domesticated. It remains lush outside but no matter how hard humans try to tame it, it cannot survive inside. Yet, just when Posthume seemed to be too rough and ready for human enjoyment, the balsamic spiciness of cinnamon and clove mellows the edges and a loving hug of vanilla adds the olfactive equivalent of human shelter. The base is rich and reassuring thanks to a smoked accord with melds with vetiver earthiness.
Posthume Eau de Parfum is a sensual celebration of life untethered by creature comforts.
Even if traces of human touch are present here, Posthume’s feral aromatic atmosphere thrives in a posthumous environment – a wild place that can get on just fine without us.
