Parfum D’Empire Ruade (Extrait de Parfum) is an exceptional natural oud perfume with all the fervour of the kick from the animal. A dynamic elixir, brimming with animality. Mane, hoofs, saddle, gallop, jump. Ruade is the memory of a weekend dressage after the jockey has led the horse back to the stables. Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, founder and perfumer of Parfum D’Empire, has long practised the sport he evokes here – the adrenaline of the race, the euphoria of returning to the stable…

The equestrian world is a unique olfactive universe. After the horses are unloaded from the transport van and escorted to their stables, the van emits a strong mix of animalic smells: the leathery scent of harness, saliva from the bits, sweat from the saddle, pine tar to lubricate the hooves, and the remains of straw and hay on the blankets. To capture the scent of the opening of saddlebags, Parfum D’Empire has chosen one of the most exciting raw materials in perfumery: oud essence. Distilled for over a thousand years, this fragrant resin is the result of the infection of the Aquilaria tree, after a very slow evolutionary process over several decades. This sumptuous liquid gold, used here in overdose, shows off its richness in every flavour.

The floral fragrance of narcissus is wild, highlighting the indolent nature of Ruade, with its mane notes and straw-like effect. The absolute of cut hay lends its power to evoke the haystack, which flies through the air and drives horses mad. A fearless perfume overdosed with the most precious materials, saturated with animality and as rebellious as the kick of horses.

With Marc-Antoin Corticchiato’s words: ““I discovered oud some 30 years ago. At the time, it was a researcher friend of mine – a brilliant analyst of natural raw materials – who sent me a small vial accompanied by his complex analytical file and a handwritten note telling me that he was convinced this terribly animalic note would please me. It did! Years later, I wanted to work this oud into one of my perfumes. I knew exactly how I wanted to use it. But very quickly, it began to be asserted everywhere, and I preferred to put this project, which was close to my heart, to the side. And yet, despite all the hype, we rarely smell oud in its natural state: Western perfumery has appropriated the note with often sticky, sickening reconstitutions, stripping it of its shiny, leathery effects and highly animalistic flight. The nobility of oud reminds me of some of my travel companions: Equistrius, Salomon, Santeano, Harissa, Dingo, Quoachem, Harold, Iris du Ronceray… and so many others. Horses have always been part of my life. By supporting my journey through the darkest days, they have saved me many times.”
