Mendittorosa Mauna (Extrait de Parfum) beautifully combines the essence of Silence and Sandalwood. Surrounded by Silence, in a language all its own, Mauna is a fragrance that goes beyond mere perfume. Derived from the Sanskrit word for Silence, Mauna takes inspiration from the purity and essence of the concept. The Indian sandalwood was a deliberate choice as the central stone of the perfume. Here, Silence itself is not just the absence of noise, but the origin of truth, a primordial energy from which everything else flows.

In Mendittorosa Mauna, we can immerse ourselves in the profound relationship between fragrance and Silence, discovering the quiet echoes that fragrance evokes, as well as the presence and silent power of fragrance. Mauna is a silent invitation to meditate and to embrace the profound silence that also perfumes can evoke. Master Abhinavagupta, one of India’s great philosophers, was essential to Mauna’s inspiration. As one of the masters of the Kula school, Abhinavagupta wrote: “When smelling the sandalwood, like some melodies, people can reconnect with the sacred vibrations within themselves. Here lies purity and freedom.”

In the realm of tradition, Mauna appears as a sutra, a sacred text. Guided by the skilful hands and sensitive touch of Italian perfumer Cristiano Canali, the creation of Mauna has been a transformative journey. Canali’s destiny is intertwined with the rich Indian culture and the magic of the Indian sandalwood: during his stay in India, he underwent a profound transformation thanks to the ancient teachings of Ayurveda. Amidst the fragrant whispers and quiet vibrations of the Indian sandalwood, he found his calling in the sound of the Indian sandalwood; his path irrevocably turned towards the art of perfume. Mauna’s composition resonates with deep wisdom and reverence for silence and the sandalwood, embracing the essence of his travels and the tradition itself.

Mendittorosa Mauna also celebrates its magnificent appearance: it boasts a raku ceramic cap reminiscent of a lotus flower in the early stages of unfurling. Within the delicate petals, golden hues are visible, hinting at treasures to be discovered. Resting on a hand-painted canvas, it becomes a visual focal point, typical of the artistic and symbolic look of Mendittorosa perfumes. The beautiful cap is by the Italian sculptor, Alessandro Reggioli, who has collaborated with Mendittorosa for over a decade.
Reggioli’s talented hands, devoted heart and creative brilliance have enriched many a Mittendorosa work of art with their timeless beauty.

Mauna is the fifth in the Mendittorosa “Talismans Classic Collection”, following in the footsteps of Le Mat, Sogno Reale, Nettuno and Sirio. Mauna envelops all the symbolic elements and embraces them in its expansive and quiet embrace.
