Description
Mendittorosa Ithaka Eau de Parfum is an old world oriental perfume rich in incense, chewy benzoin and opulent wood resins. A bright bergamot opening quickly dissipates leaving dense and creamy aqueous magnolia infused with sweet, musty incense and spiced vanilla. Labdanum and patchouli are green, earthy and darkly sweet – redolent of exotic eastern shores. Along with the scent’s big resinous heart, Ithaka’s base boasts a wealth of incense, perfumes and spices as dense as an ancient Phoenician trading port. The drydown smells expensive and ambery, as rich benzoin teams with olibanum resin’s balsamic spiciness. As this sensual perfume gradually mellows, a seductive, faintly saline imprint remains on the skin – perhaps hinting at the journey to far flung ports this scent has taken you on.
Mendittorosa Ithaka Eau de Parfum is the first scent created in the house’s ‘Versi’ range within the ‘Odori d’Anima’ series. ‘Versi’ aims to explore the relationship between poetry and perfumery. Ithaka is an alluring antique oriental fragrance based on a work of the same name by emblematic Greek poet, Constantine P. Cavafy, first published in 1911.
Mendittorosa creative director Stefania Squeglia has described Ithaka as a perfume ‘made of coral, light, sea harbors’. Fittingly Ithaka Eau de Parfum has a hand-crafted wooden cap and a hand-incised tablet featuring a small boat in the sea. The bottle is housed in the classical ‘Odori d’Anima’ hand stamped wooden box, inspired by those used by Tuscan artist Alessandro Reggioli to protect his artworks during transportation.
