Description
Jorum Studio Carduus Eau de Parfum is a bouquet of dry herbs and spices inspired by the thistles, jaggy leaves and heathland botanics of Scotland. United in their harsh growing terrain, it’s strange how the windswept Scottish Highlands and sunscorched scrublands of the Eastern Mediterranean both produce prickly herbaceous bushes, hardy herbs and oily shrubs. Their intense scents are accompanied by pungent roots which cling to whatever nutrients they can get. Look behind the austere exterior and these defensive plants reveal earthy oriental aromas which are warm, comforting, and redolent in the scents of traditional medicine.
Jorum Studio Carduus opens with the quality of a luxuriously spiced delicacy. Sweetness comes in the form of aromatic aniseed and earthy cinnamon bark. Savoury notes reveal themselves in the form of clary sage with its musky, herbaceous depth, while marjoram has a camphoraceous woodiness. A mix of sun-tinged gustatory herbs and spices, sweet confections and pounded roots comes together like the recipe for a rich, resonant gingerbread.
The pungent, sweet-savoury scent makes Carduus smell like something ancient. Musty, mature and mysterious, this niche perfume is unashamedly polarizing. Even the drydown unfolds with an unusual buoyancy. Starting extremely rich, dense and laced with spices, Carduus proceeds to shed layers and reveal a veiled, noble incense facet which weightlessly evokes ceremony and ritual.
