Imaginary Authors Slow Explosions Eau de Parfum is an oriental leather fragrance dusted in saffron and enlivened with rose and apple – capturing the technicolour extravagance of a night market. All Imaginary Authors fragrances are based on a fictional work of literature and Slow Explosions is a vibrant account of how Gween K Vroomen escapes the everyday drudgery of her corporate job to find physical and spiritual reawakening in India.

Slow explosion is a scent to both lose and find yourself within. The full-bodied opening radiates the rounded aroma of raw leather, laced with an otherworldly tangle of saffron. This classic perfume pairing feels highly luxurious, and thanks to its exotic, medicinal facets forms an olfactive antidote against the normal and the habitual.

The intense, spiced hum of the initial notes is brightened and contrasted by the vivid colours and crisp fragrance of rose and apple. A slow explosion of revelation, the fresh petals and tart fruit unfurl from the musty leather and golden tinged spice, reflecting the multiple layers of a life experienced in full profusion. A sense of playfulness abounds in Imaginary Authors Slow Explosion as saffron’s earthy rubber tones blend with heady, oriental woods to artfully recreate the distant, smokey pops of fireworks.

The sensual blast of herbs and florals jostling together in Slow Explosion’s opening and heart is gradually assuaged by the resiny warmth of benzoin. The calming, earthy warmth of cashmeran powders the air like a perfumed pashmina caressing delicate cheeks. Slow Explosions thickens and softens into a sumptuous drydown, revealing a niche perfume that transforms the eruptive energy of change into the easy air of homecoming.

Synopsis: “In 1980, Gwen K. Vroomen quit a monotonous job, went to the corner bar, and – on the bartender’s urging – threw a dart at a world map tacked on the wall. She had never heard of Goa but knew immediately she needed to go. Three months later she was celebrating Hindu New Year at a tea garden high in the hills of Kerala, fireworks exploding below. She wrote of that night: “I was resuscitated by color, redeemed by the vibrant unknown.” Her self-proclaimed “Journey out of darkness,” dotted with unforgettable stories of night markets, river floats, and harrowing moped rides, inspired a generation of young Americans eager to buck the drudgery of ordinary life.”
