Description
Imaginary Authors Cape Heartache Eau de Parfum is a warm, woody fragrance inspired by the aromatic treasures of the great outdoors. All Imaginary Authors fragrances are based on fictitious works of literature and Cape Heartache is one of a number of scents inspired by the equally makebelieve travel writer, Philip Sava (other Imaginary Authors scents inspired by Sava are Memoirs of a Trespasser and O, Unknown). In Cape Heartache Sava explores the sense of wholesome adventure of West Coast America in the 19th century.
Central to Cape Heartache, the balsamic woodiness of pine beats to its own rustic drum. Evergreen forests enter the mind’s eye, inspiring a sense of discovery. The unadulterated wilderness of newly explored terrain is reflected in notes of brisk fresh air, salt laden seaspray and coniferous woods. The inclusion of Western hemlock, the epitome of evergreen woodland in America’s Pacific Northwest, points to the possibility of reinvention through nature on the new frontier.
Imaginary Authors Cape Heartache is more than just a woody scent: moss is the timeless green fragrance of an ancient landscape in all its complexity. Pine resin has a rich sappiness – beautifully alluring with a honey-like texture that calls out to be inhaled. Alongside its sense of adventure, Cape Heartache has a warm and spicy side – the scent of comfort in a bracing climate. Trees, with their calming herbal aromas, promise shelter from the elements, not to mention the balsamic woodiness of a warm log cabin.
There is a sweet spot at the heart of Cape Heartache, like nature’s treats that can be foraged from forest floors. Strawberry, the unmistakable symbol of spring sun transformed into sweet fruit, shows the playful side of this strapping fragrance. Alongside the juicy delights, a warm hum of vanilla, the central spice that fuelled the age of discovery, has universal appeal.
Cape Heartache is an ode to humanity and its relation to nature: nature as a catalyst for adventure, as a source of comfort and as the eternal place of homecoming, even when that place is halfway across the world.
Synopsis: ‘Cape Heartache is the lone American contribution to Philip Sava’s wildly popular series of exploration novels. It is based loosely on an expedition he made to the Pacific Northwest as a teenager in 1881 and is generally regarded as the most candid of his works. Revolving around a homestead he built in a coastal grove of old growth trees, the novel documents his romance with a young woman who was a descendent of the Nehalem Indian Tribe. Its themes of leaving the familiar and finding comfort and solace in a new place still resonate today.’
