Description
Imaginary Authors A City on Fire Eau de Parfum is an intense smoky fragrance of burnt match and blackened wood emanating from a sweet amber core. All Imaginary Authors Fragrances are inspired by a fictitious work of literature and A City on Fire is graphic novel and crime noir rolled into one, where an unlikely duo track down a murderer through the sinister side streets and backalleys of the big city.
True to its name, A City on Fire opens with pitch black plumes of dense smoke. Initial notes do not resemble the heat of active fire, but rather the aftermath of charred timber shrouded in ash. A City on Fire is more about wood, the medium that produces fire and smoke, than it is about pure, golden flame. It is a midnight bonfire the next morning or a match that’s just been snuffed out. Like burnt wood in liquid form, cade oil captures the aroma of rich, black pitch tar. It is deep, evocative and all engrossing.
There are multiple textures at play in Imaginary Authors A City on Fire. From viscous, chewy pine resins to the smoking solidity of dessicated wood and dark, dripping ink. The latter recalls classic printing presses of Gotham-like metropolises where the city’s newspapers, hot off the press, reported the latest grizly murder and classified ads directed desperate starlets to brooding private detectives. Just as A City on Fire points to wood as the source of flame, pulp fiction and bitter ink gone up in smoke highlight the physicality of the graphic novel itself.
Yet, underneath the playfully sinister scents of burning industrial megalopolis and barbequed book, A City on Fire reveals an opulent, oriental underbelly. The tranquil hum of woodfire underneath reveals a sensual, smouldering core. Secretive notes of labdanum and patchouli form a sweet-spiced amber. The plumes of smoke are sweetened with distant blackcurrant. A subtle hint of incense and musty spikenard add an exotic, woodyard warmth.
Imaginary Authors A City on Fire has a decadent, addictive aftermath. Of a crime. Of a fire. Of text and image captured in ink. It is a fragrance that asks you to step into the hard edged shadows of metropolitan life, inhale the intoxicating fumes of smoking cinders, immerse yourself in the sticky, resinous murk of its mystery and revel in the shameless luxury of it all.
Synopsis: “A brilliantly dark graphic novel, A City On Fire, is the story of two match-makers. Rupert literally fabricates matches in a factory on the waterfront while Frances writes a dating column for the city’s newspaper. Both are recluses who haunt the night’s shadows observing clandestine activities from afar but never partaking. That changes one fortuitous evening when they are both witness to the same high-profile murder and are forced to come together as an unlikely vigilante pair in order to save their own names.”
