Description
Filippo Sorcinelli io non ho mani che mi accarezzino il volto Extrait de Parfum is a spicy oriental niche perfume. An array of dry, spicy balsams and dark resins recreate an atmosphere which is equal parts soul-warming and foreboding. This mysterious scent marries bright, youthful notes of galbanum resin in the opening with a broodingly nostalgic background centred on the balsamic heat of incense. While the sweetly spiced, mildly medicinal notes of cinnamon bark bespeak of old-school candy, the aroma of childhood bliss is shadowed by the looming darkness of ancient resins. When burned myrrh, styrax, cedarwood and benzoin almost seem to whisper sensual secrets sublimated into heady fumes. This mysterious coalescing of elements forms an olfactory aura which is dry, smokey and subdued. Filippo Sorcinelli io non ho mani che mi accarezzino il volto Extrait de Parfum gains its strength through its atmosphere of distance. An unadulterated joie de vivre is tempered by a sense of deeper longing somewhere just beyond the scope of the mind’s eye. Perhaps this is a longing to retrieve the perfect past of our memories. Or perhaps it’s the bitter-sweet realization that happiness has always lain, ever elusive, just behind the smokey plume of consciousness.
Filippo Sorcinelli io non ho mani che mi accarezzino il volto Extrait de Parfum is an olfactory tribute to renowned 20th Century photographer, Mario Giacomelli. His photographic series of the same name (‘there are no hands to caress my face’ in Italian) is a haunting collection of images from the 1960s portraying young Italian seminarians frolicking in the snow. The playful but poignant photographs highlight the incongruities between boyish frivolity and the conventional expectations of men of the cloth. The bright glare of the overexposed backgrounds works in striking contrast to the pitch black figures, while the jovial atmosphere of the scenes disturbingly jars with the stark solemnity of the ceremonial cassocks. Filippo Sorcinelli io non ho mani che mi accarezzino il volto Extrait de Parfum comes in a metal-clad bottle which recreates the form of Giacomelli’s camera and features one of his uncanny photographs. The gravity defying cap is a reimagining of the swirling cassocks of the young seminarians twirling in the snow.
Filippo Sorcinelli io non ho mani che mi accarezzino il volto Extrait de Parfum is an evocative scent in Sorcinelli’s mysterious world of perfumes which features ancient gothic gloom united with cutting edge modernity in one darkly immersive aesthetic. Not only is Sorcinelli one of the world’s most revered niche perfumers, he is also a classically trained organist and famous for his ‘LAVS’ bespoke tailoring atelier which makes the intricate, elaborately designed robes for the Vatican. His wide ranging artistic talents and classical Italian reference points are reflected in his avant-garde bottle designs and the ritualistic and liturgical themes which infuse many of his works.
