Description

DS & Durga Bowmakers (Eau de Parfum) with the scent of a violin maker’s workshop: oil lamps and flickering candles are lit, wax dripping onto the floor in places. Everywhere wood, maple, mahogany, the darkest ebony, the floor covered with fragrant, curly wood shavings, the air filled with the scent of lacquer dust and a thousand pencils. The master leans over the oak bench and caresses the curved shape of a violin, the body warm and golden in the soft light, the neck, the fingerboards and the mouthpieces almost melting under his nimble fingers. Pine resin flakes float as he works, smoothing, gluing, and preparing varnishes and oils to give a fancy sheen to the grains and lines.

D.S. & Durga Bowmakers is an astonishing time capsule of violinmaking workshops in 18th century American cities. Each workshop developed its own secret recipe for decorative shells and varnishes. These could include elemi, benzoin, saffron, mastic, sandalwood and turpentine for color, preservation, finish, tone and beauty. D.S.& Durga brought the craftsmen’s polished, resinous portrait to life in an immersive and vibrantly glowing fragrance.

Top notes: violin lacquer, mahogany, outdoor accord
Heart notes: amber pine resin, maple, cypress
Base notes: spice wood resin, cedar and moss
