Description
Christèle Jacquemin Underworld Eau de Parfum balances sunshine and shade with its light citrus notes and powdered sweetness glimmering atop an aromatic backdrop of florals, seeds and herbs. The bright citrus zing of the opening nestles into a sweet glow of honey and a delicate cloak of woods. The perfume’s heart envelopes with darker, more grounded notes: cumin’s dry, earthen sweetness accompanies the warm, expressive notes of pepper. Carrot seed is a cooling contrast with its subterranean, soily quality. The pungent aromatics in the opening and heart mellow into a resinous base of golden mimosa, vetiver, patchouli and incense, inspiring a sense of soulful self-examination.
Christèle Jacquemin Underworld Eau de Parfum is a musing on the transition from lightness into dark – and back again – as we turn inwards to examine the intimate workings of the psyche. Christèle was inspired to make this scent by the many photos she took during an emotionally evocative time living between Barcelona and Paris. Underworld is, as such, an olfactory journey into the dark, often frightening recesses of the self. True to Yves Saint-Laurent’s quote that, ‘the most important encounter in life is the encounter with oneself’, this shape-shifting, ever-evolving niche perfume has revealed that when it comes to the obscure walls of the worlds within, it is most fruitful to accept that we’re all in a process of becoming.
Top notes: cumin, pepper, cardamom
Heart notes: carrot seeds, patchouli, vetiver
Base notes: tuberose, mimosa, frankincense
