Christèle Jacquemin Meandering Soul Eau de Parfum is the scent that sweet dreams are made of. Delicate, sugared green sweet fennel folds its aromatic aniseed notes into the exotic lemony woodiness of Hinoki, a Japanese cypress variety. The opening’s calming herbal notes are like verdant tendrils outlining the niche perfume’s full bodied silhouette: richly fruity ylang-ylang, deep narcissus and sweet spiced cinnamon. Almost as if hewn from pungent clay, the fragrance’s heart has a robust, ochre-toned warmth which smells rounded and relaxing. During drydown, Meandering Soul dallies downward into a rich, sweet base to assuage the soul. Rich, milky caramel befits the very human need to treat oneself, while heady tobacco offers guilt free indulgence. A resinous malt whiskey aroma gives Meandering Soul a restrained adult sophistication, preventing the scent from becoming an entirely edible gourmand fragrance.

Christèle Jacquemin Meandering Soul Eau de Parfum exists more in the realm of fantasy than foodie. Although the list of ingredients reads like an olfactory dessert, it’s more sophisticated than that as the edgy aromatics disrupt and cut through the toffee vanilla feeling. Comforting in the imaginary sense rather than the edible, the scent was born of Christèle’s desire to create a sanctuary of nature while living amid the urban chaos of Taipei.

Meandering soul is a tincture for the soul, a balm of calm; a visualization of relaxation turned into scent. As André Breton once said, ‘imaginary is what tends to become real’.
