Description
Christèle Jacquemin Impermanence Eau de Parfum is a life affirming zinger of a niche perfume. With stunning longevity for a citrus scent, the opening of bergamot, ginger and hinoki sparkles in the air before ever so slowly transitioning into a feminine herbal rose accord. The bergamot here is a spicy celebration of how the elements within a high quality perfume do not stay still. The fragrance is waxy, zesty, fleshy, completely rounded and fully formed – like the multisensory experience of squeezing the whole fruit in the hands. Hinoki, a Japanese cypress tree, has a lemony woodiness which comes across refreshing, powdery and green. Its pine tinged scent is coniferous without being overtly medicinal and rather ventures into delicate, papery territory. The heated spice of ginger places the scent’s geographical profile somewhere in the south and east of the globe. The gradual arrival of the scent’s heart reveals something exotic and deep: rose and beautifully roselike Indian palmarosa grass bring new dimensions to the homely floral fragrance. Rosemary, vetiver and yerba mate offer a herbal bed out of which the bright fruits and blossoms can flourish.
Christèle Jacquemin Impermanence Eau de Parfum is the scent equivalent of the phrase ‘a change is as good as a rest’. The scent achieves a refreshing and relaxing harmony by including unexpected olfactory elements where one would expect more traditional or conventional ones. The use of Hinoki to achieve citrus effects and the use of palmarosa to round out the depth of rose adds an uncanny twist to our generic scent expectations. Inspired by photos taken of Jinze, an idyllic old village near Shanghai where she spent time on an artistic residency, Christèle understood that sometimes far from the habitual and the familiar, something new happens. The invisible is at work. Change, the fruitful source of life, is afoot – altering us for the better.
