Bogue Profumo O/E Eau de Parfum is an innovative take on the powerful, masculine cologne. Citrus-forward, wood-centred and resin-based – the niche perfume captures a sturdy landscape of camphorous Mediteranean conifers and herbs. Like other Bogue Profumo scents, O/E has an array of notes as dense as an Italian forest, but master perfumer Antonio Gardoni handles the complexity of materials with an easygoing confidence. O/E is just the stuff for lovers of big, bold woodsy scents. The opening sees citusses such as lemon, neroli and bergamot jostle with herbs like sage, rosemary and thyme, as well as spicy pepper and clove. This gives the initial lemon notes an aged, almost fermented feel with an olfactory reference somewhere between classic men’s soap and old-school medicinal balsam.

As the bright herbal citrus notes recede, warm woods makes themselves known. Pine, juniper and cypress have a natural huskiness, giving the perfume’s heart balsamic depth.

O/E settles down to a base of calming resins. Benzoin’s lasting impression is of the comforting and all-embracing aroma of mother nature herself. Like the dappled light of sunshine penetrating the hardy coniferous canopy – O/E’s masculine heft is beautifully balanced by a sophisticated softness. Structural equilibrium is a guiding force in this avant-garde scent as Gardoni’s training as an architect serves him well in the construction of this scent’s elaborate framework. Natural versus constructed, contemporary and classical, fresh yet funky, O/E builds perfectly upon Bogue Profumo’s now well established place in the valhalla of modern niche perfumery.
