Description
Anatole Lebreton Grimoire Eau de Parfum is an aromatic spicy perfume inspired by ancient books, Mediterranean herbs and the mysterious art of sorcery. Grimoire, the French word for a book of spells is a deep and dark niche fragrance which is as secretive as it is arresting. The initial notes creak open like a leather-bound volume in the hush of an age-old library.
After a fleeting hit of citrus freshness, Grimoire unveils the balsamic spice of elemi. With its musty, peppery, almost lemony facets it conjures up images of a dust speckled chamber illuminated by beams of sunlight.
Sweet, earthy cumin hums with animalic warmth as it recreates in olfactory form paper soiled by hundreds of years of fingerprints. Books, after all, connect us both to each other and to the dark recesses of the past. There is a sense with Grimoire that to smell it is to gain access to a long lost recipe. It is an unknown entity, a herbal tincture that is broodingly dark, yet wonderfully aromatic.
Heart notes include perfume ingredients which freshen the dankness of its opening as green basil, spicy tendrils of olibanum, barks and musks breathe life into the primeval gloom. Two types of lavender contribute to an atmosphere of herbal wellbeing. Classic lavender from Haute Provence purifies while Luisieri lavender from Seville boasts dark liquorice notes which add an element of black magic. In the drydown Grimoire moves from lavender’s herbaceousness to full-on tree trunk as the sharp red woodiness of Atlas cedar recreates the shadowy halls and wood-paneled rooms of a school for witchcraft and wizardry.
Perhaps most beautiful of all, bibliophiles and budding sorcerer’s alike will be enchanted by Anatole Lebreton’s brilliant ‘old book’ accord which he achieved through a creative combination of patchouli and vanillin. In so doing he has produced in Grimoire a beguiling aromatic potion where age-old books with their well-worn yellowed pages cast a spell of protection over the soul.
Anatole Lebreton Grimoire Eau de Parfum is vegan. No animalic raw materials are used, cruelty free.
