Description
Aedes De Venustas Pelargonium (Eau de Parfum) is a contemporary geranium perfume with a baroque twist that highlights the raw grace of this precious flower. As a stunningly elegant fragrance still life, depicting its eponymous ingredient as a composition of a mysterious flower in a Dutch Golden Age painting.
“My aesthetic inspiration was a vintage flower that everyone thinks they know, when in fact no one does,” says perfumer Nathalie Feisthauer, who draws geranium from the depths of the fragrance pyramid to reveal its complex profile through freshly crushed leaves that shed light on pale woody and resinous notes.
Aedes De Venustas Pelargonium means “sweet-smelling”, and it is at the heart of one of the most versatile essences in perfumery. Its fragrance is distilled from the leaves of the plant rather than its flowers, and has long been used as a fresh, rosy scent note.
According to perfumer Nathalie Feisthauer, the geranium here is less fruity and more balsamic, almost incense-like. The perfume opens with a canvas of cool orris notes stretched over a cedarwood frame. It then paints a dark, smoky backdrop with Haitian vetiver, guaiacwood and moss. The golden glow of Calabrian bergamot infused with the shimmer of green cardamom permeates the scene, with richly textured ingredients adding volume and contrast to the composition. The herbal sweetness of carrot seed enriches the harmonious lines of the fragrance, while nutmeg suggests the softness of velvety leaves. Lemony, peppery, incense-like elemental resin and a muskiness smooth the edges.
Aedes De Venustas Pelargonium takes on an imposing bouquet of abstract beauty, an ever-changing work of art that freely transmits its beauty across the skin.
