Description
Aedes De Venustas Amnesia Rose (Eau de Parfum) won the Best Perfume Prize in 2024 at the Art and Olfaction Awards in Lisbon in the Independent Category. Amnesia Rose is a sparklingly fresh, full-bodied spicy rose perfume with an oud base. Its rose petals are adorned with saffron, drenched in patchouli drops and sprayed as if with fine red wine dust.
The opening of Aedes De Venustas Amnesia Rose captures the moment just after dusk begins on a calm late autumn evening, when the breeze from the opening door brings in the fresh air. This rose is not a deep red or pale pink, but a pastel purple with almost greyish tones. The edges of its petals have just begun to curl, unfurling with a fullness that hums with rich spice and woody notes.
Amnesia Rose is inspired by the still-life aesthetic of Aedes Perfumery on New York’s Lower East Side, where beautiful floral compositions are showcased in ornate vases, with stuffed animals in the background and vintage fabrics on the walls, while the scent of incense permeates the air. Amnesia Rose takes its name from a rose variety grown in France, which has a fainter fragrance but has a stunning vintage look and feel.
Perfumer Luca Maffei says of Aedes De Venustas Amnesia Rose: “An intense rose whose personality never fades and, above all, never goes unnoticed”. To create a woody-spicy, long-lasting bloom, he juxtaposes Moroccan rose absolute and Bulgarian rose essence with Cypriol oil, saffron and the fragrance of the succulent Bushman’s candle shrub. A whiff of sparkling rose pepper is immediately noticeable, but the initial glow of Amnesia Rose is quickly replaced by a satiny richness that leads through to a drydown that invites with a dry, earthy cushion of labdanum, patchouli and oud.
