Description
Aedes De Venustas Grenadille D’Afrique (Eau de Parfum) is an exceptional woody perfume with the special balsamic scent of the ancient African grenadilla tree. Its hard-bouncing, smoky rhythm is pulsated by sun-kissed resins. A nod not only to the tree itself, but also to its majestic home.
“It is a surprising, uncompromising and emotional fragrance,” says perfumer Alberto Morillas. “The materials are simple, cold and unadorned. This density and simplicity makes the fragrance a form of art”.
Aedes De Venustas Grenadille D’Afrique is inspired by the blackwood tree. A rare and precious member of the rosewood family, its Latin name Dalbergia melanoxylon means “black tree”. The translated name belies the diversity of the tree’s scent, which ranges from deep purple to brownish black. The ancient Egyptians called it h’bny and made valuable furniture from the wood. In Tanzania it is known as mpingo by the Makonde people and is used to make wonderful Tree of Life carvings.
The scent of Aedes De Venustas Grenadille D’Afrique lingers from twig to root, infused with aromatic juniper, the mythical grenadilla tree is based around the trunk of the Haitian vetiver. The complex aspects of woody, smoky, earthy and fiery create an axis that brings together vegetal, animalic and mineral notes.
On first sniff, it’s hard to tell if the perfume is beckoning you into the twilight or the dawn. The sparkling bergamot captures the last rays of the sun, while lavender and violet shed the powdery moonlight of a purple haze on the soft grass of the savannah. The balsamic warmth of vanilla is transformed into a flaming resin by the whip of ambery cistus labdanum. Sun-baked wood, soft bark and sun-warmed stones release the warmth of the sun into the pitch-black night, cooled by a waft of musk.
Aedes De Venustas Grenadille D’Afrique is a starkly contrasting perfume composition, as if a petrified tree has been rubbed with vanilla. A perfume whose dark woody heart is highlighted by bright fiery notes.
