Description
Les Abstraits La Douleur Exquise (Eau de Parfum) focuses on the iconic flower of love, a special rose. The perfume asks the question “Is it better to love and lose than never to love?” Who hasn’t experienced the pain of loss mixed with the memory of love, transformed into a paradox of sweet agony?
Les Abstraits La Douleur Exquise (in English: The Beautiful Pain) explores this theme in perfume. The rose, representing lost love, melts like a red beeswax into the beautifully melancholic, bodily and meditative scent of cumin, frankincense, myrrh and patchouli. A sumptuous, rich kaleidoscope of floral and darker materials. Antoine Lie is a master of combining spicy and fresh notes with flowers in unusual ways.
At once spicy, earthy, dry and fleshy, La Douleur Exquise never leaves the iconic flower of romance and love. Instead, it holds a fresh, lush rose petal in front of the nose to remind us, just like a sunrise after the darkest night, that all is not lost. There always comes a time to start again – and perhaps learn to love again.
It takes courage to reveal vulnerability, to face what is so hard about our own fears. Resistance is often the seed of unbridled anger, of reckless behaviour, of clinging. We can often falter, hiding from ourselves by attacking others who may reflect qualities in us that we find difficult to reconcile. Green, bitter leaves and thorns can break through the blanket of problems. These are the roses that open up La Douleur Exquise and the flow of emotions.
