Francesca Dell’Oro Else (Eau de Parfum) has been nominated for Best Perfume Prize at the Art and Olfaction Awards in 2024 in the independent category in Los Angeles.

Francesca Dell’Oro Else is a special oriental, spicy floral perfume inspired by Arthur Schnitzler’s novel Fräulein Else. The main character of the perfume is an extraordinary carnation. At once sharp and spicy, bright and exciting, it is unrivalled in modern perfumery. Lush, fresh and hard headed, it is utterly captivating.

The spiciness in Francesca Dell’Oro Else is due to clove, which gives the perfume a direct vintage effect. The cold bitterness of oakmoss is enveloped in a cool veil of heliotrope and iris, powdered with vanilla and almond. As the perfume dries down, cinnamon, amber and patchouli retreat into the darkness. At first glance, it may not seem like a modern fragrance, but its secrets are revealed when worn.

The carnation is pink, like the blush on a young lady’s cheek. The carnation accord breaks through the grey veil of iris and the thickly woven velvet of cinnamon. She tries unsuccessfully to shake off the powderiness, but then, just like Fräulein Else in the book, blushing, she retreats naked to the flowerbed, where she throws herself into the arms of the sweet tropical champaca and finds solace among the sweet roses.

Arthur Schniztler’s admirable short story and grandiose play Fräulein Else, from which Francesca Dell’Oro Else draws its inspiration, are an oppressive vibration of rhythm and oblivion in which the author has merged his love into a psychological examination of a highly controversial character. A perfume of obsessive rhythm, it is like an ongoing internal dialogue in which the elements subvert each other in pulsating emotional contrast.
