Description
Blackcliff Monarch (Extrait de Parfum) true to its name, is the king of summery citrus perfumes, with an almost bewildering complexity and a duration that leaves most citrus fragrances behind. Perfumer Justin Frederico once again makes a big splash (think Immanence), as the opening of the perfume is a trio of perfumes at once: an almost gourmand direction emerges from the citrus acidity, and behind it all, a slightly sulphurous fruity haze. Blackcliff Monarch is a perfume that is much more than the sum of its parts. The list of notes named in the fragrance pyramid could suggest chaos, but instead we get something quite stunningly cool, citrus leathery, a so far unknown masculine magic potion.
Blackcliff Monarch perfume is secretly held together by a wonderful quality oud, but in a way that makes it almost invisible as a fragrance note. Rather, a magical, golden glowing caramel aroma rises behind the fresh, bitter citrus scent. The drydown is mysteriously woody and noble. The scratchiness of cedar keeps it exciting, the slight smokiness of the guaiacwood lends elegance. It is recommended for who want a very exciting summer perfume that reigns on the skin as long as a monarchy would.
