Description
Infieri Hotel Vesuvius Extrait de Parfum is a beautifully smoky, layered woody perfume, that memorializes the gigantic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79AD. The perfume, as a work of art, contrasts one of the most powerful natural disasters of antiquity with the position of an eyewitness who watched the devastating eruption from the comfort of his home.
Everything began with the smoke clouds, so too do we first experience the smokiness of birch tar combining with javanese vetiver acting as a warning sign. At this point people didn’t suspect the outcome of the events but fear was already in the air. The devastating lava flooded everything at once, that’s why this perfume doesn’t have a typical scent pyramid: every note diffuses at once, we perceive all of them simultaneously and our senses are covered. Lava spills down the mountain, surrounding the pine trees first, devouring the cedars, and finally burning the fields and flowers. In the perfume, the beauty of nature is represented by the trees, and as a result of their complex intertwining, Hotel Vesuvius is at once smoky, warm, sweet, ashen, leathery, and somewhat unfathomable.
Infieri gives a rather dazzling olfactive response to the tragic choice of subject matter from the perspective of a single eyewitness. The eruption of Mount Vesuvius, thanks to the Hotel Vesuvius Extrait de Parfum, can now be experienced from a sufficient spatial and now temporal distance.
