House of Matriarch Bonsai Eau de Parfum is a bitter green potion that magically combines the ordered nature of a zen garden with the chaotic wildness of weeds. In the Art & Olfaction winning Bonsai, House of Matriarch took the Japanese zen garden as inspiration to capture in scent a side of nature that is timeless and sacred. A place where rare natural notes of alligator juniper, black copal, aglaia flower, chrysanthemum and specimen evergreens of the Far East burst forth in their fullest expression and radiance. Fittingly for a fragrance of this calibre, Bonsai is a delicate olfactive arrangement that perfectly reflects the highly cultivated and tended to gardens of the far east.

But there is also something wilder hiding amid the pristine, preened foliage. Bonsai has a bitter green edge, unleashing a fragrance that feels wild – poisonous even. This dark side is reminiscent of ragwort (otherwise known as benweed), a toxic weed that grows on the fringes of fields throughout the Eurasian continent. The primordial green aroma that surrounds it imbues ragwort with an unharnessed, independent spirit and it was even used in Ancient Greece to produce love potions.
