Imaginary Authors Sundrunk Eau de Parfum is a soul warming summer hit of sunscreen, orange soda and beach party – a niche perfume for life lived in full vibrancy. All Imaginary Authors scents are inspired by fictitious works of literature and Sundrunk is a coming of age novel – and perfect beach read – about a young woman who discovers her true self along the sundrenched beaches of a small Californian surfing town.

The opening is a synthetic citrus burst with the refreshing effervescence of an orange soda. The sparkling citruses on display combine bittersweet neroli, fleshy orange pulp and a mouthwatering suggestion of pomelo. The citric zing is brilliantly artificial. The colours are saturated and the sweetness is suped up on high-fructose corn syrup. Sundrunk doesn’t take itself too seriously, adding to the playful sense of abandon you feel when sun, surf and sand wash away all worries.

What is it about wafts of UV rays bouncing off plastic in the form of beach balls, body lotion bottles and sun loungers that is so intoxicating? In a way Imaginary Authors Sundrunk works like a refreshing summer cocktail, balancing sweet, salty and bitter. Neroli’s bright but acrid rind recreates the sour shimmer of sunscreen on hot, tanned skin. A subtle hint of tear-jerkingly tart rhubarb is sweetened up by a floral swish of honeysuckle. The faint ozonic air of sea and hot sand adds the mouthwatering contrast of salt rimmed kisses.

Synopsis: “When Clementine Cope set foot in snow deeper than her knees, she knew it was for the last time.
