Description
Naomi Goodsir Iris Cendré Eau de Parfum is an iridescent iris perfume blending citrusses and spices over a backdrop of smoky ash. For many in the niche perfume world iris connotes images of prim, powdery scents characterized by a classical, poised beauty. But as is her wont to do, Naomi Goodsir has explored new olfactory terrain in Iris Cendré, creating a joyously nonconformist iris perfume that challenges norms. Opening with a kick in its step, Iris Cendré is strikingly fresh, led by bergamot and tangerine peppered with a flourish of spices.
The floral-forward heart revolves around iris and violet. But here the classical duo is infused with a rich, tobacco-y incense, adding sensual provocation to the powdery propriety. Iris Cedré means ‘ashen iris’ in French, and the tobacco accord is accompanied by the ancient smoked resin notes of cistus labdanum – an earthy embrace from the comforting darkness.
Naomi Goodsir Iris Cendré has a sultry seductiveness without being overtly smoky. Instead, the base reveals the satin-smooth, subterranean notes of orris butter. With its rooty and creamy sheen, orris butter gently blends with the sweet depth of the heart to produce a warm and delicate amber accord.
Iris Cendré is prim perfection sullied by flecks of ash. It sparkles and smoulders at the same time. This genre defying balancing act of a niche fragrance is highly sophisticated and boasts a fundamentally unisex appeal. It proves that, with just the right amount of clever reworking, some of the perfume world’s most traditional floral pairings can become something unexpectedly, beguilingly new.
