Dusita Cavatina Eau de Parfum is an olfactory ode to the lily of the valley with a beautifully refined fragrance of white florals and refreshing citrus. More commonly known in perfumery as ‘muguet’, lily of the valley is notoriously difficult to capture in scent form. This makes Cavatina all the more a triumph of niche perfumery in its effortless showcasing of muguet in all its clean, green glory. Known for her exquisite use of florals, Dusita founder and nose Pissara Umavijani has used unique methods to harness the beauty of this most elusive of white flowers, earning Cavatina a place in Fragrantica’s top ten perfumes of the year for 2021.

Cavatina’s opening is all fresh and sprightly like the eternal optimism of spring and reflects the abiding association of this short-lived flower with purity and rebirth. Bursts of bergamot and the herbaceous tartness of petitgrain abound in youthful vitality. The thirst quenching citrus blend laces Cavatina like a perfumed elixir and forms the perfect counterpart to muguet – the floral star of the show. Angelically innocent and classically beautiful, Cavatina’s heart has all the virtue of a bride in white carrying a dainty bouquet of lily of the valley. With muguet’s gracious presence front and centre, garlands of rose, jasmine and ylang ylang delicately fringe the dreamlike scene, rounding it off into a haze of floral sophistication.

Most muguet centred perfumes are constructed from an array of synthetics, but not Dusita Cavatina. In typically virtuosic form, Pissara has managed a floral miracle thanks to her very own muguet accord. Here she combines a soupcon of cyclamen aldehyde with litsea cubeba, a rarely used flower from South East Asia to reproduce a muguet of clean lines and spotlessly white floralcy. Cavatina gleams in its own modesty. Unadorned by frills and ornament, its perfumed purity speaks for itself.

In opera a cavatina is a short song of simple character which often features in operas. Just like its musical namesake, Dusita Cavatina floats untethered by a weighty heart and fussy arrangement. Its beauty lies in its classical poise, which finds equilibrium in a refreshingly modern minimalism. It is a scent which achieves timelessness from the ephemeral and wins our hearts by turning the simple into the sublime.

Top notes: Calabrian bergamot, Chinese litsea cubeba, petitgrain, exclusive Dusita muguet accord.
Heart notes: tea rose accord, Egyptian tuberose, jasmine, Indonesian ylang-ylang.
Base notes: Indian ambrette, Siamese wood, Madagascan vanilla
