Description
Meo Fusciuni Varanasi Extrait de Parfum is an intense oriental scent devoted to the full-bodied, animalic depth of oud. Although Varanasi is a sensual celebration of oud from the outset, the opening is accompanied by a wave of heady oriental spices: saffron, nutmeg and cardamom replicate the olfactory building blocks of India. Ambergris rounds out the initial notes and functions as an expansive animalic counterpart to the niche perfume’s floral heart. Rose, jasmine and cypriol are laid out like brief offerings on the banks of the river Ganges before this scent unfurls its visceral base.
Whereas the opening features an uncompromising barnyard oud facet, during drydown the oud softens into a warm ode to Indian spiritualism. Spikenard (an intensely aromatic essential oil distilled from precious jatamansi root) has a musty, medicinal depth. Gurjun Balsam bolsters the sweet balsamic base. Varanasi Extrait de Parfum gradually tapers off with leather and animalic notes resting sensually on the skin. Ancient meditation in perfume form, Varanasi asks us to engage with the life giving water that flows from the bowels of the earth, that touches the roots of everything and that nourishes the very essence of being.
Being an extrait de parfum, Meo Fusciuni Varanasi contains a high concentration of perfume compounds giving it a deep aroma and intense performance. The first scent from a new Meo Fusciuni collection called the “Timeless Trilogy”, Varanasi is based on the sacred city of Hindu worship. Varanasi truly has a timelessness to it. It is a non-place, both sacred and profane, a place of encounter that challenges traditional differentiations between a “smell” and a “perfume”. It enmeshes us in an immersive world of fragrant nuances which embraces the contrasting and the magnetic in equal measure.
Olfactory pyramid: saffron, nutmeg, cardamom, incense, ambergris, jasmine, rose, ambrette, cypriol, spikenard, vetiver, oud, gurjun, leather, animal notes.
